“Book development, also called book production or book packaging, is a common but hidden part of the publishing world. In collaboration with a publisher, we perform all the tasks of a publisher—developing a book idea, hiring writers, and editing text—except the final stages of printing, distributing, and marketing. Because we are often a silent partner with the publisher, our name sometimes does not appear on the books we develop and produce. We commonly work on multiauthor and university-related books, such as critical anthologies, encyclopedias, and reference books.”
